With the final phase of the $15-million Okanagan Mission Secondary school expansion now complete, students are kicking-off the new school year in an environmentally friendly and updated school.

The new state-of-the-art $20.7-million Fraser River Middle school opened its doors to hundreds of excited students on the first day of school. 

Government is providing $500,000 to this year’s Raise-a-Reader campaign to support community-based literacy programs for children and families throughout British Columbia.

Students need to connect with the skills required in our changing world – and two Ministry of Education programs aim to do just that by helping school districts connect kids with  opportunities in skilled trades and tech training. 

The Province and the Langley school district are tackling rapid community growth and increasing student enrolment with more than $67 million to create more seats, classrooms and a new school for students and families in the Willoughby Slope area.

With three elementary school expansion projects now complete and construction underway on a new secondary school in the Clayton North area, 380 new seats are ready for Surrey students and 1,500 more are on the way.

A group of kindergarten students who will be the graduating class of 2029 are B.C.’s first students whose education will be entirely under B.C.’s new curriculum.

Vancouver Technical Secondary graduate Bronwyn Vaisey is an accomplished culinary arts student, advocate for climate action and food sustainability, food-service worker, community volunteer and student council representative. This year, she added “prestigious scholarship recipient” to the list.

Students have many decisions to make leading up to graduation. Now is the time they start thinking about what they want to do in life after high school.
