The BC Wildfire Service is responding to two fires of note in the Southeast Fire Centre.

An additional 980.5 hectares of the Coastal Douglas-fir ecosystem has been protected in 19 land parcels near the communities of Bowser, Qualicum Beach, Nanoose Bay and Cedar on Vancouver Island, and on Galiano and Salt Spring islands.

As part of the Kootenay Lake Action Plan to recover kokanee stocks, some bull trout will be removed from the Duncan River, below the Duncan Dam, this summer.

Effective at noon on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, all open burning (including campfires and Category 3 fires) will be prohibited within the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction, with the exception of Haida Gwaii and the area known as the fog zone.

First Nations, local governments and not-for-profit organizations are reminded to get their applications for the fifth intake of the BC Rural Dividend program submitted before the July 31, 2018, deadline.
