At the request of the Mayors' Council on Regional Transportation, the Province is introducing legislation, under Bill 11, the Greater Vancouver Transit Enhancement Act.

Upland Excavating Ltd. of Campbell River has been awarded a $1.5-million contract to rebuild the Dick Booth Culvert on Holberg Rd. west of Port Hardy. The culvert was washed out during flooding last September.

Outdoor recreation in the Golden area is getting a boost with the construction of a new trail up Golden Hill.

Local contractor Brocor Construction Ltd. has been awarded an $8.5-million contract for the Braden Road Phase 3 project. This will complete the reconstruction of the entire length of Braden Road between Highway 97 North and Highway 97 South.

The Province is investing more than $1 million toward 17 cycling infrastructure projects across British Columbia to encourage and support healthy living for families and communities.

NORTH VANCOUVER - Families may now walk, jog, bike, skate, or wheel on the newest section of the award-winning North Shore Spirit Trail, thanks to North Shore-wide community co-operation and funding provided by the Province, the District of North Vancouver and TransLink.

Work is underway to restore access on Highway 97 between Chetwynd and Mackenzie Junction and other priority routes throughout the Peace Region, following major floods and washouts caused by a one-in-40-year rainfall event.

Transit travel from South Surrey to Richmond and Vancouver will be improved with the widening of the BNSF railway overhead on Highway 99 to accommodate the shoulder bus lane currently under construction.
