Drivers are reminded that every year beginning on Oct. 1, people travelling on most provincial highways are required to equip their vehicles with appropriate winter tires.

Commercial truckers will now face higher fines for not carrying chains when required, as well as not installing them during mandatory chain ups on B.C. highways.

Important rehabilitation work will begin this week to improve the reliability and extend the service life of the Kootenay River bridge on Highway 3.
