The annual Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria bike ride takes place on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017, from approximately 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with an anticipated 1,500 cyclists riding through Victoria, the West Shore and the Saanich Peninsula.

Over the May long weekend, access to the parking lot at Sombrio Beach will be temporarily restricted for safety measures, as in previous years, to discourage illegal activities such as parties and vandalism.

The Province has committed to improving safety at the Parkland, Gillespie and Connie road intersections on Highway 14 between Langford and Sooke.

Following the conclusion of a successful project to test the durability and reliability of new and existing highway line paints, the ministry will be taking action to improve  line visibility throughout the province using a more durable and longer-lasting formula.

Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Todd Stone has released the following statement on adding an additional seat to the Victoria Regional Transit Commission, and appointing Sooke Mayor Maja Tait to that role:

Keeping provincial highways, bridges and side roads in good condition is key to a safe and reliable transportation network, and government has earmarked more than $28 million for this year’s rehabilitation program on Vancouver Island.

Work has begun on $9.1 million worth of highway improvements that will benefit drivers, cyclists and pedestrians along Highway 14 in and around Sooke as part of a partnership between the Province and the District of Sooke.
