Effective at noon on Sept. 18, 2017, the BC Wildfire Service has rescinded the campfire prohibition that was in effect within the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction. The use of tiki torches (and similar kinds of torches), outdoor stoves, gas stoves and other portable campfire equipment is also now permitted.

Effective at noon on Thursday, July 6, 2017, all open fires (including campfires) will be prohibited throughout the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction, with the exception of Haida Gwaii and the area known as the “Fog Zone”.

The Province is providing $1.746 million for palliative and hospice care in British Columbia to support patients and caregivers.

Skilled trades students in three regional school districts will benefit from a three-year, $15-million investment by the B.C. government to support youth trades programs with the purchase of new trades training equipment.

Government is providing school districts with a total of $95 million to help them extend the life of their facilities, put new supplies in classrooms and buy new school buses. 

The Government of B.C. and BC Ferries have agreed to add more ferry sailings between Skidegate and Prince Rupert to better serve the increasing number of travellers on this route.

Finance Minister Michael de Jong will be hosting a telephone town hall for residents in the Vancouver Island/Coastal regions of B.C. on Monday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m. to get their input on the 2017 provincial budget.

Over the course of 2016, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has boosted the DriveBC highway camera network by adding 43 new webcams and 108 new webcam views.
