VICTORIA - Below is a statement from Pat Bell, Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Innovation, on today's decision by Vancouver City Council to reject the rezoning application for land located at 777 Pacific Blvd.
"The provincial government respects the process and Vancouver city council's decision.
"We have a renewed government under the leadership of Premier Christy Clark, and we are going to take a fresh look at options to develop this property. I have directed PavCo to work with Vancouver council and the community to ensure that any future decisions are in alignment with what the community wants.
"This is a complex issue, but it is now time to move forward. All parties need to be heard from and listened to in deciding the best future for the land. It's vital to the future of the city and province that the right decision is made, and the development of the land benefits all Vancouver residents.
"Today's decision does not affect the timelines for the revitalization of BC Place. On Friday, Sept. 30, the BC Lions will host the Edmonton Eskimos under the new retractable roof - in front of thousands of spectators in the stadium and a national audience watching on television."
