British Columbia continues to perform well during challenging economic times with over 38,000 net new jobs in our economy since February 2011. Our government remains focused on jobs and economic growth.
While employment numbers are down slightly from last month, they remain much higher compared to this time last year. B.C. is seeing steady gains year-over-year, an indication our economy is strengthening. The most recent Statistics Canada's monthly report released today also noted British Columbia's unemployment rate was virtually unchanged at 7.0 per cent, down from 8.1 per cent at this time last year. This rate remains at a three-year low and is the fourth-lowest rate in the country.
'Canada Starts Here: The BC Jobs Plan' builds on government's solid foundation of prudent fiscal management to attract investment and open new markets for B.C. products and services, and to create jobs for British Columbians. As part of the plan, B.C. is making smart investments in infrastructure and is working hard to ensure British Columbians have the right skills for tomorrow.

Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Innovation Pat Bell -
"I am pleased to see continued job growth year-over-year in the province. While numbers are down slightly from last month, we know that economic recovery is fragile but overall we have seen strong, consistent growth in the number of new jobs to the economy. With the BC Jobs Plan we are delivering results and we remain committed to fostering economic growth, job creation and keeping spending and taxes down."
