The Tsawwassen First Nation Final Agreement Implementation Report 2012/13 is now available, providing information on the continued implementation of British Columbia's first urban treaty.
The 2013/14 report covers the activities and progress of the Parties in implementing the treaty in these areas: Tsawwassen First Nation Lands, Natural Resources, Governance, Programs and Services, and Finance. The Tsawwassen First Nation Final Agreement came into effect on April 3, 2009. As well as being the first urban treaty in Canada, it is the first modern treaty negotiated under the B.C. Treaty Commission process.
Five treaties have been fully ratified in British Columbia: the Nisga'a Final Agreement, the Tsawwassen First Nation Final Agreement, the Maa-nulth First Nations Final Agreement (which includes five First Nations), the Yale First Nation Final Agreement and the Tla'amin Final Agreement.
In June 2013, Canada passed legislation to ratify the Yale First Nation Final Agreement and in June 2014, Canada passed legislation to ratify the Tla'amin Final Agreement. Both are scheduled to come into effect in April 2016.
