The Vancouver Island Job Makers stories available on the BC Jobs Plan website illustrate a variety of different businesses across the island:

Long Hoh Enterprises – A small specialty sawmill with 60 employees, this Nanaimo Job Maker is one of the largest employers in the region. Long Hoh supplies wood products to countries as far away as Japan, for projects as diverse as Shinto temples: http://ow.ly/VDPzR

Cedar Journey Caskets – The Nanaimo Job Maker is a First Nations small business started by Tom Simpson, which manufactures custom-made, hand-painted caskets. The increased interest in his unique hand-carved caskets has led to collaboration with local artists, and also creating a job for an apprentice to help with the painting: http://ow.ly/NwbUx

Excel College – The Comox Job Maker, launched in 1989, expanded over the years to keep up with changing labour market demands. This year Excel opened campuses on four new Vancouver Island sites and in Powell River to offer aquaculture training and a health-care office assistant program: http://ow.ly/Nw6ix

Accent Inns – In the tourism sector, Victoria-based Accent Inns has six locations and 175 employees, including the newly re-branded Hotel Zed, which could be a brand new chain for Accent. It's an updated motel concept with friendly shared spaces to encourage guests to get outside and socialize: http://ow.ly/Nw9xl

MediaWorks – Another Victoria Job Maker, MediaWorks, was recently acquired by Workday, a Silicon Valley firm. The cloud-based educational video platform company was started by Stuart Bowness and Damien Tanner, who look forward to attracting more talent to Victoria’s growing tech industry: http://ow.ly/Nwbp7

Sea Cider Farm & Ciderhouse – This Saanich Peninsula Job Maker was started by Kristin Needham. Annual cider production at Sea Cider is upwards of 9,000 cases, up from 7,000 in 2014. The number of employees is also on the rise – 30 this year compared to 20 in 2014: http://ow.ly/Smu6u

Merridale Cidery – The Cowichan Valley Job Maker has grown from two employees to about 45 and includes a restaurant, thriving wedding business and two yurts for people who want to go glamping: http://ow.ly/VDP3L

Moon Under Water Pub & Brewery – This Victoria brewpub was started by Clay Potter, a former UVic genetics student. Moon Under Water is a family-based brewery that has grown to 32 employees. Clay’s mom Ann Farmer does the books: http://ow.ly/VDO1K
