The Government of British Columbia has appointed Leah Hollins as Island Health’s new board chair and Ron Mattson as a new member.
“Hollins and Mattson both have a long history of public service and significant experience in health care,” said Health Minister Adrian Dix. “Our goal as a government is to provide leadership for a strong public health-care system in British Columbia and we are confident that these appointments will support this goal.”
Island Health will benefit from the depth of experience offered by both members. “It’s great to have an Order of Canada recipient and a devoted public-service and community-planning member join the board, lending their history, technical expertise and level of dedication to helping health care on the island reach its maximum potential,” added Dix.
A health authority board of directors helps ensure that British Columbians receive the best possible care in an efficient, well-managed public health-care system. Boards are responsible for the governance and management of health services in the province. They work with health authority leadership to establish the organization’s overall vision and ensure there is appropriate community consultation. Boards also regularly review the organization's long-term plans, look at significant issues affecting the organization and evaluate results.
Dix thanks previous Island Health board chair Don Hubbard and member Matthew Watson for their service.
