Innovate BC's mandate

The new Crown agency will be responsible for the policy, administration, operation and delivery of programs that support innovation, entrepreneurship and business development in the tech sector. Its responsibilities will include:

  • offering tools, resources and expert guidance to entrepreneurs and companies in British Columbia, including support for building capacity to access new markets and attract investment;
  • providing B.C. entrepreneurs with business development support at all stages of company growth;
  • delivering programs to help technology startups grow and create jobs throughout B.C., including accessing capital;
  • offering  a wide spectrum of business development and partnership opportunities responsive to industry needs;
  • gathering knowledge to promote advancement of technologies and the growth of the tech sector;
  • providing policy and program advice to government to foster innovation and commercialization of B.C. technologies;
  • working with regional partners to ensure the benefits of technology and innovation are felt around the province and to support Indigenous entrepreneurship; and
  • facilitating strong linkages between the technology industry and B.C. public post-secondary institutions.
