Details on boundaries, service responsibilities, provincial supports
  • The District of Okanagan Falls’ boundary is made up of all the private properties that were eligible to vote in the 2025 incorporation vote, with the exception of two neighbouring parcels held by the Osoyoos Indian Band and its members.
  • Incorporation brings responsibility for services currently provided by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (such as water, sewer and land use planning) and the Province (such as roads, subdivision approval and property tax collection) under the new municipality.
  • All regional district services, except water and sewer, will transfer to the new municipality at incorporation.
    • The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen will continue to manage and make decisions about water and sewer services for three years after incorporation.
    • The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen will also deliver other municipal services under contract to the new municipality for the first year.
    • All provincial services, except roads, will transfer at incorporation.
    • Roads will be maintained by the Ministry of Transportation and Transit for five years after incorporation.
  • Costs and service levels were considered as part of the incorporation study and community engagement and will continue to be determined by the future council as it sets local priorities and budgets.
  • The Ministry of Housing and Municipal Affairs has committed approximately $1.8 million to support incorporation, including funding to support the establishment of the new municipality’s administration, inaugural election costs, service transition support and other funding to help the new municipality get started.
  • The Ministry of Transportation and Transit will provide in-kind support for road maintenance.
  • Together, this represents a total provincial contribution of approximately $6.6 million to support the transition.
