Construction of the new multi-use overpass at the McKenzie Interchange will result in overnight lane closures and a detour on Highway 1 on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019.

Another milestone will be reached at the McKenzie interchange project on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019, when traffic is transitioned to the new bridge over the highway.

Construction of the new multi-use overpass at the McKenzie Interchange will result in the overnight closure of the southbound slow lane on Highway 1 on Friday, Oct. 4. One southbound lane of traffic will remain open.

People travelling through the Highway 1/McKenzie Avenue interchange project will see a big change as the precast concrete box beams for the future Highway 1 underpass are lifted into place this weekend, July 20 and 21, 2019.

The second and final construction contract for the McKenzie interchange project is 50% complete, with current work focusing on building the overpass that will allow Highway 1 traffic to travel through the intersection without stopping.

Drivers are advised that the southbound left turn onto Carey Road, along Douglas Street/Highway 1, will be permanently closed as of June 10, 2018.

Beginning this weekend, drivers are advised that the northbound lanes on Highway 1 will begin to detour onto the newly constructed ramps for the future interchange.

Drivers are advised to watch for temporary shifts in the travelling lanes on Highway 1, as work continues on the McKenzie interchange over the long weekend.
