Louie Thomas Sr. is enrolled in Camosun College’s automotive service technician program, but he kick started his education by first taking community-based training. The Getting Ready for Tomorrow program was held at the Esquimalt Nation Band’s office.

The Union of BC Municipalities annual convention is being held in Victoria, B.C. September 26-30 at the Victoria Convention Centre. Melina Laboucan, a 33-year-old member of the Lubicon Cree First Nation, came to UVic’s Indigenous Governance (IGov) master’s program in 2013 with a clear purpose: to develop a solar energy project plan that would tackle Indigenous and environmental issues in her home town of Little Buffalo, Alberta.
