Indigenous women and girls on Vancouver Island will receive increased community-led support through $1 million from the Giving Voice project.

Toquaht Nation and Uchucklesaht Tribe members on the west coast of Vancouver Island will have safer access to their communities with new improvements coming to forest service roads.

British Columbia intends to enact legislation that recognizes the Haida Nation’s Aboriginal title throughout Haida Gwaii, effective on Friday, July 5, 2024.

First Nations can now acquire, hold and register land, such as fee simple land, leaseholds and other interests in their own names directly, just as individuals, Modern Treaty Nations and corporations already could.

The legislation that recognizes the Haida Nation’s Aboriginal title throughout Haida Gwaii received royal assent in the B.C. legislature on Thursday, May 16, 2024.
