People are reminded to stay safe this winter season by preparing themselves and their vehicles for driving.

Starting Monday, Oct. 1, 2018, people will be required to have winter tires on their vehicles on most British Columbia highways for safe travel during winter months.

The federal and provincial governments are working together to deliver everything from new recreation centres to better internet, with two new infrastructure programs that will build up communities in every part of British Columbia.

With increased traffic expected over the B.C. Day long weekend, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure reminds travellers to plan ahead, use extra caution and watch for motorcycles.

British Columbians will have access to 11 new public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations added to highway rest areas throughout the province.

Drivers are advised that overnight paving will begin tonight on Highway 1, between Aspen Road and Shawnigan Lake Road, as part of the ongoing Malahat safety improvement project.
