The first-ever provincewide homeless-count report shows that while B.C. has taken important first steps to house British Columbians, more work needs to be done to prevent and address homelessness in B.C. communities.

Seven new members were appointed to the board of directors for Community Living BC (CLBC), the provincial Crown corporation that supports more than 21,000 people with developmental disabilities throughout B.C.

Based on the latest data available from Statistics Canada (2016), British Columbia has the second-worst rate of poverty in Canada with 557,000 people, or 12% of the population, living in poverty.

In October 2017, government launched a comprehensive public engagement process to help inform B.C.’s first Poverty Reduction Strategy.

As part of the Province’s efforts to reduce poverty and prepare for the emerging economy, three distinguished researchers have been appointed to lead a B.C.-focused exploration of basic income.
