Capital investment in B.C.’s protected areas system

Since 2001, more than $200 million has been invested in the province’s protected areas system to improve park facilities and acquire new lands.

In fall 2015, the Province committed $1 million to assume ownership of several of the 26 conservation properties transferred from The Land Conservancy of BC to the Nature Conservancy of Canada. In addition, more than $13 million was invested into facility and capital projects in provincial parks throughout British Columbia in 2015.

Several notable facility investments and upgrades completed in 2015 include a new shower building at McDonald Creek Provincial Park near Nakusp, new electrified campsites at Lakelse Lake Provincial Park near Kitimat, as well as trail upgrades at provincial parks near Whistler, Campbell River and Vancouver.

This also included new campground upgrades at Goldstream Provincial Park near Victoria, including a new bike park for children. Unveiled in summer 2015, the Pump Track and Skills Loop Trail has already been enjoyed by dozens of children and youth.
