The current spell of hot, dry weather has resulted in increased fire danger ratings throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre. The majority of the Cariboo Fire Centre is currently or soon expected to be rated “extreme”.

Over the Victoria Day holiday weekend, Wildfire Management Branch crews from the Cariboo Fire Centre responded to nine new wildfires. Fire suppression efforts also continued on the Pelican Lake fire.

Since April 1, the Wildfire Management Branch has responded to 24 wildfires within the Cariboo Fire Centre that have burned about 500 hectares. All of these fires were human-caused and therefore preventable.
