Columbia River Treaty

Edition:

U.S. Entity Regional Recommendation

On December 13, 2013 the U.S. Entity released the Regional Recommendation for the Future of the Columbia River Treaty after 2024, which was submitted to the Department of State. According to the U.S. Entity Columbia River Treaty 2014/2024 Review website, following receipt of the regional recommendation, the U.S. Government will formally take-up the question of the Columbia River Treaty. The Department of State has been designated as the agency to coordinate and oversee a Federal interagency review under the general direction of the National Security Council. This review is on behalf of the President who will make the final determination on how or if operations under the Treaty, or the Treaty itself, should change, and whether or not the U.S. will decide to discuss any matters with Canada. The determination is expected to take at least 6 months. For more information and to view the U.S. regional recommendation, visit: www.crt2014-2024review.gov/
