Final Columbia River Treaty Review Public Consultation Report

Thank you Basin residents for providing feedback on the draft Columbia River Treaty Review Public Consultation Report. The final report can now be viewed at:  http://blog.gov.bc.ca/columbiarivertreaty/community-engagement/

On September 25, 2013 the Treaty Review Team posted the draft public consultation report online for comments. Ads inviting Basin residents to comment on the online draft or request a copy to be mailed to them ran in 22 Basin print newspapers and nine online media outlets in early October 2013. In addition, postcard invitations to comment online or request a copy to be mailed directly to them were mailed to every Basin household during the first week of October.  Information about how to comment was also included in the Columbia River Treaty Review October 2013 e-newsletter, Facebook and Twitter.

In addition, the Treaty Review Team held public meetings in six communities in early November 2013 seeking feedback from Basin residents on whether the draft public consultation report reflected their views and, if not, to identify what was missing. Approximately 225 people attended the meetings and the majority of attendees felt the draft public consultation report included or mostly included the issues and concerns that were important to them.

Comments on the draft public consultation report were accepted until November 20, 2013. The final Columbia River Treaty Review Public Consultation Report has been updated to include information from the November 2013 community and Sounding Board meetings and online and other feedback the Treaty Review Team received.
