Summary of November 2013 Community Meetings Now Online

In November 2013, the Columbia River Treaty Review Team (Treaty Review Team) fulfilled their committment to "close the loop" and inform Basin residents how their interests had been considered.  The Treaty Review Team held meetings in six communities: Jaffray, Cranbrook, Golden, Naksup, Castlegar and Valemount and provided a LiveStream option during the meeting in Castlegar so more Basin residents could participate.

During the meetings approximately 225 Basin residents reviewed and provided feedback on any gaps in a draft public consultation report that summarized information and feedback collected by the Treaty Review Team from emails, blog posts, Twitter, Facebook, telephone calls and from the three rounds of community consultation meetings and during a full day Columbia River Treaty Technical Conference.  Attendees also reviewed the Treaty Review Team's draft recommendation and fourteen principles that reflected the information in the draft public consultation report.

Most attendees felt that tey had been heard, and that the draft public consultation report and draft recommendation and principles reflected or mostly reflected their views and perspectives.  Some attendees wanted to see the public consultation report include more specific information about the impacts to agriculture and some wanted stronger language unsed in the principles.  A detailed summary of the November 2013 community consulations, as well as summaries from previous rounds of community meetings, are available at http://blog.gov.bc.ca/columbiarivertreaty/community-sessions/
