Columbia River Treaty

Edition:

Introducing the CRT Fish and Wildlife Technical Committee

The Columbia River Treaty Fish and Wildlife Technical Committee provides technical support to the Columbia River Treaty Review. It is made up of technical advisors with expert knowledge of fish and wildlife issues in the Columbia River system and includes representatives from Environment Canada, BC Hydro, Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations , Ministry of Environment and the Canadian Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission (CCRIFC).

The Columbia River Treaty Fish and Wildlife Technical Committee is currently involved in identifying fish and wildlife performance measures that could be used to evaluate alternative Treaty scenarios. This work includes reviewing performance measures previously used in the Water Use Plan, Non-Treaty Storage Agreement, Mica 5-6, REV 5 or other processes, as well as creating new draft performance measures for the Koocanusa/Kootenay Lake / Kootenay River areas that have not previously been the subject of Water Use Planning – type processes. The CRT Fish and Wildlife Technical Committee is also providing input into the modelling of Treaty options with a focus on environmental values.

A summary report will be posted on the gov.bc.ca/columbiarivertreaty website in the coming months.
